THE WASSERMANN REACTION (C.L.W.R.) The original Wassermann test was a complement-fixation test which used as the antigen treponema from the liver of a syphilitic stillborn child (Bordet, Gengo^ Wassermann, 1906). Although the true Wassermann test is no longer carried out it15 not uncommon for the term to be used as a generic expression for any complement' fixation test using heart extract as the antigen.
